Fair housing
Equal housing opportunity
We rent homes to people who qualify, on the same terms, applied the same way every time.

Our commitment
Augustine Realty complies with the federal Fair Housing Act and the North Carolina State Fair Housing Act. We do not refuse to rent, set different terms, or steer anyone toward or away from a particular home because of:
- Race or color
- National origin
- Religion
- Sex, including sexual orientation and gender identity
- Familial status: having children, being pregnant, or securing custody of a child
- Disability
This applies to our advertising, to how we answer inquiries, to how we screen applications, and to how we treat residents once they have moved in.
How we decide
Every application is read by a person against the same written criteria, in the order received. We answer every applicant either way, including when a home has gone to somebody else first, because being left to wonder is its own kind of unfair.
If we decline, we say why. You are entitled to know the reason, and to tell us if we have got a fact wrong.
These are business and legal decisions for Augustine Realty and its attorney to set. Until they are published here, ask on (336) 645-3282 and we will tell you exactly what we apply.
Disability, accommodations and modifications
If a disability means you need something changed to have equal use of a home, ask. A reasonable accommodation is a change to a rule or a practice: a reserved parking space, a different way of paying rent, permission for a live-in aide. A reasonable modification is a physical change, such as a grab rail or a ramp.
Ask in whatever way is easiest: phone, email, a message through the portal, or in person. You do not need a form or a particular form of words, and you do not have to disclose your diagnosis. We will not charge a fee for considering a request.
Assistance animals
An assistance animal is not a pet. Service animals and support animals needed because of a disability are permitted in every home we let, including homes advertised as not allowing pets, and we do not charge pet rent or a pet deposit for them.
You remain responsible for the animal's behaviour and for any damage it causes, on the same terms as anyone else.
Accessibility of this website
We build this site to be usable with a keyboard and with a screen reader. If something here stops you doing what you came to do, tell us. Call (336) 645-3282 or email help@augustineportal.com, and we will fix it, and help you finish what you were doing in the meantime.
If you think we've gotten this wrong
Tell us first if you are willing to: (336) 645-3282, or help@augustineportal.com. We would rather hear it and put it right.
You can also complain, independently of us, to either of these:
- U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: 1-800-669-9777, or hud.gov/fairhousing
- North Carolina Human Relations Commission: 1-866-324-7474
Complaining costs nothing, and we will not treat you differently for having done it. Retaliating against somebody for asserting a fair housing right is itself unlawful.
